Poetry for Young People: Maya Angelou

This will be a gift for a newly born girl! Beautiful book illustrations and Maya’s poems! A superb book for parents to introduce and inspire their first daughter to reading by one of the world’s greatest women, teacher, word artist, and “Phenomenal Woman!”

These books are a 3-5 grade must have. It is an intro to poetry with many of our best poets.

This book has some of maya angelous most famous and beautiful poems. A good boot for children to learn who this talented writer was.

Although Ms. Angelo is admired this group of poetry selected for print was excellent. My 12r old niece loves it.

My granddaughter loves the poems in this book we read together every night short poems easy to read she’s 8

Anything and everything that Dr. Maya Angelou writes is always worth the wait. Her poetry always serves as a means of support and encouragement for the journey of life which can be difficult and unpredictable. My advice to the reader is to not read all of the poems at once. Take the time to read them one at a time, and then sit in a quiet place with tea and chocolate and listen to Dr. Angelou's voice.

I got this book for my 4 year old. I should have paid more attention to the age. I did not want to introduce her to such language at this time in her life. Working to give her a proper way of speaking that is acceptable in the world today.

What a joy this exquisite book is!! I bought it for my teenage son who is studying the masterpiece "Still I Rise" in school. He's not normally an emotional boy but he cried on the journey home in the car from school reading "Caged Bird" to me. The words touch the soul and as he said, you'd have to be a stone not to feel the words of the poem, as when you're a teen trying to fit in with your peers and you're at that awkward age in life & trying to figure out who you are, this poem put's it all in perspective no matter what struggles or mountains you face in life. A great read. This book has helped my 10 year old son enjoy poetry and appreciate where Maya Angelou is coming from.

Great book of poems, the book is good quality with nice illustrations.

A fantastic book with a great introduction to Maya. All the poems you would expect with notes to explain them.
