A GREAT value!
I have been using this unit for a week for so an love it. I rated 5 stars because there isn't a way to rate 4.5 and willing to give it a bump up. It is absolutely a GREAT value. It's lightweight, durable, responsive, and though there is a bit of a learning curve from Win 7, it presented no problems. Upgrading to ASUS was a no brainer for me, given the exceptional service of the eeePC's we have used for the past 3-1/2 years. ASUS customer service has always been good. If they lack anything in that area is that they don't always fully read or understand what you are asking. Reply time is usually 48 hours. Chat is OK, too. If you have need to use tech support online, you will not find this unit in the dropdown menu as a K200ma ... it is part of the X200ma family. There is one feature that could get a bit of improvement and that is why the 1/2 lower star rating. It is the touchpad. Sometimes you have to give it a bit more than a touch. Sometimes, two good bumps of the finger to get it to respond. The keyboard and touch screen work perfectly. There was very little in junk apps installed ... that was a good thing, too. All my apps I used on the Win 7 unit installed without incident. Was told that Print Shop 22, 23, and 23.1 would not work on this system. Not true, There was a hiccup with 22, but answered the prompts and it installed, including the Net Framework version it required. Office 2007, and OpenOffice installed without incident as did several games. Don't get frustrated with the two different UI's. Internet Explorer renders differently from the taskbar than from the Start page. So, if you are one that adds links to various webpages on your desktop, know that they will look different. Not a big deal, but can be frustrating. There is no Favorites bar when launched from the Start page. The Start page offers some nice customization features. Works very nice with the touch screen. Scroll up and there is a full list of all the apps installed in alpha order. Easy to use, and locate those apps you choose not to have on your Start page. Comes with a trial version of McAfee LiveSafe. Wasn't my choice, but it functions well. I have opted for another vendor. Movies play in HD and look great on this bright 11.6" screen. Audio is what you would expect. I have not tried my small USB speakers. Audio from earbuds is crisp. I am not the best person to rate the audio as I have some frequency deficits. The unit does not have a CD/DVD player/burner. I already had an external, so there wasn't a problem with loading up my previous apps. Also, if you have Bluetooth you will have to invest a few dollars for a version 4 dongle. I was pleasantly surprised at the speed of this 2.16Ghz Celeron processor. I don't know why other vendors show this unit with a 1.8Ghz processor, because the ASUS site and the unit show the 2.16 with a turbo of 2.41. The 4 gig of RAM are quite sufficient for my needs... I surf, buy online, word process, and a few mindless time wasting games. Keep in mind, this is not a gaming machine. Not sure why they chose to partition the 500gig hd they way they did, but it works for me. If you don't like it you can always change it to whatever suits your needs. Battery life isn't exceptional, but adequate at a little over 5 hours. Don't forget to let the power drain to 10% or less for 3-4 cycles to condition the battery for longer up time when not on AC power. All in all, it is a GREAT value from a reliable company.

Fantastic little machine!
This was a gift after my VAIO, which I hated, finally quit. It's only been two days, but I'm in love with this little machine! The size and weight were exactly what I was looking for and the touchscreen is an added bonus for the price ($259 w/Prime). The keyboard is smaller than the standard size I'm used to, but it isn't an issue for my clumsy fingers. I don't find the keys hard to press and they're sturdy enough that I don't feel like they'll be broken easily. The screen isn't too difficult to read in the shade, but it does have a gloss that easily reflects light. Indoors there is no issue with glare. This computer is user friendly, but is taking me time to get used to. I've been a longtime Vista and XP user. I don't keep up with technology but have familiarity with Windows and haven't had a problem figuring out how to do what I want. As a graduate student I spend a lot of time on Office, which this machine doesn't include. Google Drive is easily accessible, however. I have yet to work on projects but can tell that the touchscreen is going to help with browsing research and navigating screens, plus it's fun to use! I don't think there would be any interference with the keyboard if a user prefers to use the touchscreen predominately, which I'm finding I prefer to the touchpad. The only minor concern is the touch pad, which sounds hollow when tapping. Maybe I need to adjust the pressure I use, but it's a bit noisy when tapping. My review gives 4 stars for the issue I encountered with a setting that restricted the use of the keyboard. The fix came from Google and hasn't been a problem, but it was disconcerting.

NOT 500GB but kinda alright
I just received mine today and i'm fairly pleased with it. I was almost worried because it was lagging when i first started it up and setting up windows and stuff, but now it's all good. the touchscreen works fine, speed of oeverall computer is nice. it's a pretty good student laptop. there are a few things i was kinda bummed about: 1. it is that it is slightly heavy for it's size. i expected it to be much lighter 2. windows 8...but that's just personal preference(it took 30 minutes to get rid of all the unnecessary pre-installed apps) 3. i failed to notice that the battery is completely encased in the bottom and cannot be easily removed. which means if the batter dies it will probably cost more to replace. 4. and i was just looking around and IT'S NOT A 500 GB HARD DRIVE...it's only like 186GB...which isn't bad for my purposes since this is only like a travel laptop for me so i'm not storing much on it....but i'm disappointed because that's what i was expecting

Arrived on time im perfect condition. So far so good, exactly as described. Only thing I would say about the computer is that it is really small, it is the size it says it is and I thought it was what I wanted but I regret not going a bit bigger.

I've only had this guy for about a week, and I love it already. The design is much more attractive than how it looks in the above pictures -- it's really just a classy little system for someone on the go, and sturdy as heck to boot. I would never buy one in place of an ultrabook; rather, I bought it to supplement my colossal gaming laptop so I could have something to travel and bring to lectures with me without cutting corners in terms of power. While I'm used to running with 8G of ram, the 4G feels just a fraction less snappy, but it absolutely does its job. The picture is brilliant, the touch screen works wonderfully, and all-around I'm quite happy with it. My only complaint is that the trackpad feels a little cheap and is less responsive than I would like, but it's a very small critisim and I would highly recommend this little guy to anyone looking for a compact beast on the go.
